5 SPAs 5 Days: So Spa

Wed December 17, 2014

From a traditional Thai house to a skyscraper view, Day 2 offered a slightly different slice of spa life. I chose Bangkok’s Sofitel So Spa for two reasons: 1) the “gem” of a facial on the menu, and 2) the interiors of the hotel (as well as the staff’s uniforms) were designed by none other than Monsieur Christian Lacroix, in a creative collaborative with five leading Thai designers who drew from the theme of The Five Elements – Earth, Wood, Metal, Fire and Water.  Trés chic.

A quick first stop at the hotel’s decadent Chocolab (right?) and off to check-in.

Spanning the entire hotel floor, the spa is an organic oasis designed in neutrals with wood plank walls, tree trunk beams and vines and aviary murals. The Eames-style stools, metal occasional tables and oversized black bamboo chairs on black marble beautifully showcase a few of those Five Elements. The spectacular view pulls in the others.

Here’s what went on behind closed doors:

Aromatic Hammam

Not a true hammam by design – no arched stone, Persian tiled, sunken bath experience, but a nice pore opening scented steam and prep for the star of the show…

Ko Bi Do Facial

A Japanese inspired facial treatment, with Cinq Mōnde products from Paris, made from the dust of diamonds, pearls, opals and turquoise!  It sounded irresistible, and felt like a million bucks (whether it actually succeeded in any of its anti-aging claims, who cares)!

FYI: I can highly recommend the Cinq Mōndes Pluie de Fleurs facial spritz, inspired by the flower sprays of Bali, with hibiscus, gardenia, madonna lily and freesia, alcohol free.  Beautifully scented, light, hydrating, to use under make-up or a quick lively refresh any time of day.

Indian Hot Oil Head Massage

”to clear your mind…and remove fatigue caused by mental stress” (hallelujah)!

The lighting precludes you from seeing that post treatment I am positively glowing, while enjoying my dark chocolate drops and rose tea, chosen for its powers “to soothe the nerves and the emotional state of mind…and treat conditions of stress and nervous tension” (on my grocery list)!

CFMichaels SPA Week Day 2

Finished the morning with a look at Christian Lacroix’s Signature Club, and those smashing staff uniforms.
